Today at the Vicarage The

Today at the Vicarage : The Betsy.

A day for signatures, both on trust. Vicky Cocaine, on an occasional away day from "the place we do not talk about" (boo hiss), asked me to sign a blank VAT return, onto which she will, I assume, later put meaningful figures. And TheVicar Ltd signed its first contract – with Robert Quilty, the producer -said contract prepared by Roger Borer, hero of all things legal. Again I signed totally on trust, without reading the complete document. One does not mess with the Borer.

I am reminded of RF's comment to Smeller, taxman to the stars (loud hissing from the wings), asking him if he would be willing to sign a score of a symphony as a true and accurate representation of a piece of music. Clearly not, says Smeller. Why then, Fripp wonders, should he be expected to sign company accounts as a true and accurate representation of a trading company. We are all in the hands of the professionals on whom we choose to rely. God bless them one all. May they continue to be a drain on our pockets.

And God bless Vicky Cocaine for the jar of BallyMaloe Country Relish – "A delicious tomato relish". Beast, beast. My simple supper of Tacos with cheese, lettuce and cucumber was transformed. Not since I sweet talked the mother of a room mate at college have I tasted tomato chutney to compare. All of this without the slightest hint of product placement.

In fact, young Vicky almost had me casting an envious eye over her Mercedes coupe. While the Vicarmobile is more than sufficient for my humble motoring needs, this funky little thing appealled to my love of gadgets. Flick a switch, and the boot opens "the wrong way", allowing the solid roof neatly to fold away.

If music were constructed with such care.
